    Abstract:
    Cancer diagnosis presents a disclosure dilemma for physicians, holding in tension the physician's obligation to provide diagnosis and its impact on the patient. To address this dilemma the traditional approach of physicians, typified as the psychological-empirical approach to hope, needs to be complemented by a patient-oriented approach, described as the phenomenological hermeneutics of hope.
