Title: ACTH hypertension in the rat: role of kidney and gonads. Author: Whitworth JA, Hewitson TD. Journal: Clin Exp Pharmacol Physiol; 1991 Nov; 18(11):789-96. PubMed ID: 1664305. Abstract: 1. Adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) administration produces an adrenally dependent rise in blood pressure in rats. 2. The haemodynamic and metabolic effects of ACTH were examined in nephrectomized, 5/6 nephrectomized and orchidectomized male Sprague-Dawley rats and sham operated controls. 3. Reduction in renal mass did not increase the blood pressure rise produced by ACTH. 4. Gonadectomy did not reduce the blood pressure rise produced by ACTH, which was slightly higher in castrated animals.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
