Title: Surgical treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome. Author: Balen A. Journal: Best Pract Res Clin Endocrinol Metab; 2006 Jun; 20(2):271-80. PubMed ID: 16772157. Abstract: Laparoscopic ovarian surgery for the induction of ovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome provides a single-treatment option with a good rate of unifollicular ovulation, thereby minimizing the need for extensive ultrasound monitoring because of a low risk of multiple pregnancy. The cumulative conception rates after 6 months are lower than those with gonadotropin therapy, but after 12 months the pregnancy rates are similar. The risks, albeit low, are those of laparoscopic surgery, general anaesthesia and ovarian damage.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
