Abstract: OBJECTIVES: To present an in-depth overview of skin and wound assessment and care that will provide a solid foundation to better understand the effects of treatment and cancer on skin and wound care in oncology patients. DATA SOURCES: Current research and published literature. CONCLUSION: Adequate skin and wound assessment and care are essential to maintaining adequate quality of life and decreasing morbidity and mortality in oncology patients. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: Any systematic changes in skin and wound care practices for patients with cancer will be led by oncology nurses.
