  • Title: Oral lesions commonly associated with pediatric HIV infection--presentation, management, and review of the literature.
    Author: Shetty K.
Journal: Gen Dent; 2006; 54(4):284-7; quiz 288-90. PubMed ID: 16903203.
    Abstract:
At the end of 2004, the United Nations HIV/AIDS program estimated that 2.5 million children worldwide under the age of 15 were living with HIV/AIDS, while approximately 500,000 children under 15 had died from disease-related cases in that year alone. In the U.S., 90% of infected children acquire the disease perinatally from a mother with a known risk for infection. HIV-associated conditions in children are quite different from those in adults in type, severity, and progression. This article focuses on oral lesions found commonly among pediatric HIV patients.
