Abstract: Otosclerosis is a disease of the bony labyrinth manifesting clinically as a progressive conductive hearing loss, a mixed-type hearing loss, or a sensorineural hearing loss. The age of onset of the hearing loss caused by otosclerosis is principally between 15 and 40 years. Although histopathological inner ear changes due to otosclerosis have been very well documented, the true etiopathogenesis of the disease has yet to be described despite intensive research.
