    Abstract:
    Femoroacetabular impingement is a condition that primarily occurs in young and middle-aged adults. It is characterized by hip pain felt mostly in the groin. Radiographs often appear normal to the untrained observer; however, on careful analysis an anterior to lateral bump may be seen at the head-neck junction as an extension of the physeal line. An effective open technique using a safe surgical dislocation of the hip has been developed to alleviate femoroacetabular impingement. An arthroscopic equivalent of the open technique has been developed. Early results are favorable and may be comparable to those achieved with the open technique.
