    Abstract:
    Orbifloxacin tablets were administered orally to 23 dogs with superficial and/or deep staphylococcal pyoderma. Response to therapy was excellent in 95.6% of the dogs. Duration of therapy varied from 21 to 40 days (average 29 days) for dogs having only superficial infections, and from 25 to 150 days (average 72 days) for dogs having deep infections. Relapses occurred in 18% of the dogs within a 3-month period. One dog developed a presumed adverse cutaneous drug reaction. Under the conditions of this study, orbifloxacin was an effective, safe, and convenient antibiotic for the treatment of superficial and deep staphylococcal pyoderma in dogs. Efficacité des comprimés d’orbifloxacine dans le traitement de la pyodermite superfi‐cielle et profonde causée par une infection à Staphylococcus intermedius chez le chien. Des comprimés d’orbifloxacine ont été administrés par voir orale à 23 chiens atteints de pyodermite staphylococciques superficielle et/ou profonde. La réponse thérapeutique a été excellente chez 95,6 % des chiens. La durée du traitement variait de 21 à 40 jours (moyenne de 29 jours) pour les cas d’infections uniquement superficielles et de 25 à 150 jours (moyenne de 72 jours) pour les cas d’infections profondes. Des récidives sont survenues chez 18 % des chiens sur une période de 3 mois. Un chien a développé une présumée réaction médicamenteuse cutanée indésirable. Selon les conditions de cette étude, l’orbifloxacine était un antibiotique efficace, sécuritaire et pratique pour le traitement de la pyodermite superficielle et profonde chez le chien.
