    Author: Krasińska I.
Journal: Med Nowozytna; 2004; 11(1):47-75. PubMed ID: 17152878.
    Abstract:
The author presents the rise and development of sobriety societies in the territory of the Kingdom of Poland from the latter half of the 19th century to the early 20th. She highlights the initiators of the movement, including individual groups of social activists from various regions of that territory and especially social institutions (such as church-related brotherhoods of sobriety, as well as medical and hygiene societies) and the administrative and government authorities. She ponders their true role and attempts to evaluate the effectiveness of their efforts.
