They are uncommon in the general population although they do occur as an isolated autosomal dominant trait. We have observed posterior helical pits as a feature in three syndromes only: Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Simpson-Golabi-Behmel syndrome and Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome.
