  • Title: [Transient evoked otoacoustic emissions (TEOAEs) in patients with acute middle ear pathology].

    Abstract:
BACKGROUND: A transverse study was carried out with the objective of describing the alterations found in the reproducibility response and extent of the transient evoked otoacustic emissions (TEOAEs) in patients with acute middle ear pathology with standard audiometry of normal hearing or minimal auditory deficit in the preschool population. METHODS: Audiometric tests were performed such as tonal audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry or by guided training, depending on the age and cooperation of the subject, conventional tympanometric and accomplishment on TEOAE. RESULTS: Obtained data show an adequate reproducibility response total in 17.2% of the cases and extent of response preserved in 19.7% of the cases. This demonstrates that the extent and the reproducibility are affected in an important way in acute middle ear pathology. CONCLUSIONS: TEOAEs are a diagnostic method in patients with acute middle ear pathology and are useful in patients difficult to examine.
