  • Title: Inflammatory bowel disease.
    Author: McLemore LJ.
Journal: Radiol Technol; 2007; 78(4):291-305; quiz 306-8. PubMed ID: 17389422.
    Abstract:
Inflammatory bowel disease presents with a variety of symptoms, including fever, inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract lining, cramping abdominal pain and severe episodes of watery or bloody diarrhea. The exact causes of these inflammatory bowel disease processes are not clearly understood; however, most current research suggests that the inflammation results from complex interactions of multiple factors, including a person's genes, immune system, environment and use of antibiotics. Endoscopic exams, radiologic techniques and histologic laboratory tests help health care providers diagnose, treat and monitor the disease.
