Title: [The current approach to hyper-sialorrhea]. Author: Defossez W. Journal: Rev Belge Med Dent (1984); 2006; 61(3):173-9. PubMed ID: 17408138. Abstract: Drooling (sialorrhea or excessive salivation) is a common problem in neurologically impaired children and in adults who have Parkinson-disease. It is most commonly caused by poor oral and facial muscle control (aetiology) and worsened by some contributing factors. Treatment is best managed by a clinical team (speech pathologists, occupational therapists, dentists, otorhinolaryngologists) Treatment options range from conservative to more aggressive measures such as medication (anticholinergic medication, botulinum toxin type A injections in the glands), radiation and surgical therapy.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
