Abstract: There exists no clear national or international consensus in key issues of tissue banking. This holds especially true for the fundamental concept of informed consent. During recent years, the harmonization of norms needed for international collaboration has made crucial progress solely in Europe, namely through legal framing. The norms relating to tissue banking are, however, under permanent construction not only in Europe but throughout the world.
