Title: The effect of atrial septostomy on the concentration of brain-type natriuretic peptide in patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. Author: O'Byrne ML, Rosenzweig ES, Barst RJ. Journal: Cardiol Young; 2007 Oct; 17(5):557-9. PubMed ID: 17868499. Abstract: Atrial septostomy has improved haemodynamics and clinical symptoms in selected patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. We found that, in 5 patients with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension, septostomy resulted in decreased levels of brain-type natriuretic peptide, and improvement in symptoms of cardiac failure, suggesting that serial measurements of the peptide may have clinical utility.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
