  • Title: [Mumps in Poland in 2005].
    Author: Stefanoff P.
Journal: Przegl Epidemiol; 2007; 61(2):195-8. PubMed ID: 17956031.
    Abstract:
In 2005, 71,945 cases of mumps were reported in Poland. The incidence (188.5 per 100,000) was lower compared to 2004 (354.1), when the highest mumps incidence was recorded since 1999. The recently observed improvement in the epidemiological situation of mumps (trend towards lower and less frequent epidemic peaks) reflect the use of measles-mumps-rubella vaccine which was increasingly acquired by parents at their own expense during the last decade. Mandatory, free of charge, vaccination of children aged 13-14 months with trivalent measles-mumps-rubella vaccine was implemented at the end of 2003. The vaccination coverage among 3-year olds in 2005 reached 90.5%. Approximately 4.3% of cases were hospitalized (3105) and no deaths attributed to mumps were reported. Children 5-9 year old were the most affected age group (incidence 1569.7 per 100,000).
