  • Title: Back pain treatment in post-menopausal osteoporosis with vertebral fractures.
    Author: Ulivieri FM.
Journal: Aging Clin Exp Res; 2007 Jun; 19(3 Suppl):21-3. PubMed ID: 18180603.
    Abstract:
Chronic back pain is frequent in osteoporotic patients with multiple fractures, and increases after subsequent findings of new vertebral fractures. Both acute and chronic back pain improve during pharmacological treatment for osteoporosis, but the efficicacy is different among drugs. Patients affected by osteoporosis treated with antiresorptive and anabolic agents have a reduced risk of new or worsening back pain, particularly with teriparatide therapy. Teriparatide reduces back pain and improves quality of life in post-menopausal osteoporosis with vertebral fractures more than other drugs.
