Title: [Leonard Barend Willem Jongkees, editor-in-chief of the Dutch Journal of medicine 1971-1982]. Author: van 't Hof SE. Journal: Ned Tijdschr Geneeskd; 2007 Dec 29; 151(52):2913-5. PubMed ID: 18257440. Abstract: Leonard Barend Willem Jongkees (1912-2002) specialised in otorhinolaryngology and was appointed professor of otorhinolaryngology at the University of Amsterdam in 1950. He published over 400 papers and gained international fame with his research on equilibrium disorders, facial nerve paralysis, and deafness. In 1971 he became editor-in-chief of The Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Geneeskunde (Dutch Journal of Medicine). He objected to the increasing attention for social issues such as abortion, contraception, and euthanasia during the 1970s, which in his opinion did not belong to the medical domain. Nevertheless, he organised an important round-table conference on euthanasia in 1980 under the auspices of the editorial board of the Journal.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
