    Author: Wang H, Li M.
Journal: Zhongguo Xiu Fu Chong Jian Wai Ke Za Zhi; 2008 Feb; 22(2):192-5. PubMed ID: 18365617.
    Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To summarize the latest developments in silk fibroin as biomaterials and its applications in tissue engineering. METHODS: The recent original literature on silk fibroin as biomaterials were extensively reviewed, illustrating the properties and applications of silk fibroin biomaterials in tissue engineering. RESULTS: Silk fibroin as biomaterials had good biocompatibility and degradability. It supported the cell adhesion differentiation and growth. It was used for artificial ligament, vessel, bone, nerve and so on. After modification, silk fibroin could be extensively used in tissue engineering. CONCLUSION: Silk fibroin is a good biomaterial, whichhas a great potential applications in tissue engineering.
