Title: [New results of the clinicopharmacological study on Enzaprost-F (PGF2 alpha) cervical tablets (CHINOIN)]. Author: Farkas M. Journal: Acta Pharm Hung; 1991 Jan; 61(1):9-22. PubMed ID: 1872192. Abstract: 4 group of 100 primigravidas with pregnancies of 6-12 weeks received 4 Enzaprost-F (5 mg of PGF2 alpha each), an Enzaprost-F injection (5 mg of PGF2 alpha) and .1% Rivanol solution (CHINOIN) in 1st trimester pregnancies for cervical priming for legal abortion. The average rate of dilatation was 4.6 mm. 2 hours after insertion of the tablets dilatation was checked to see if it had reached 9 mm, and subsequently curettage or vacuum aspiration was performed. The tablet was effective in 93% of cases within 4 hours; the injection was effective in 92%, and the Rivanol instillation of 83% within 24 hours. The serum progesterone concentration of patients at 7-8 weeks of pregnancy dropped from 98 nmol/l to 73.3 nmol/1 within 2 hours, then it rose to 82.6 nmol/1 4 hours later. The decrease was significant even 12 hours later. In contrast, those at 9-12 weeks of pregnancy had a decrease of serum progesterone level from 89 nmol/1 to 68.6 nmol/1 within 2 hours. 17-beta-estradiol concentration in patients with 7-8 weeks of pregnancy decreased from 2.9 nmol/1 within 2 hours to 1/7 nmol/1, staying significant for 6 hours. The level of this hormone in patients at 9-12 weeks of pregnancy decreased from 4.1 nmol/1 to 2/9 nmol/1 within 2 hours, but not as significantly in 6 hours as in the previous group. The serum progesterone concentration in multigravidas at 9-12 weeks of pregnancy decreased from 59.9 nmol/1 to 45.6 nmol/1 in 2 hours, although not as significantly as in primigravidas. It was established that 35% of treated patients obtained the optimum cervical dilatation of 9 mm within 2-4 hours, while 58% of patients had 7 mm. In primigraivdas under 12 weeks of pregnancy, adequate dilatation can be expected within 4 hours if the decrease of 17 beta-estradiol serum concentration corresponds to 1 1/2-2 times the decrease in progesterone level.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
