  • Title: [Adrenocortical diagnosis in ambulatory practice].
    Author: Müller J.
Journal: Schweiz Med Wochenschr; 1976 Aug 21; 106(34):1151-4. PubMed ID: 188123.
    Abstract:
The determination of plasma cortisol concentrations is a valuable aid in the diagnosis of some important adrenocortical diseases. Since cortisol is secreted episodically, the diagnostic value of diurnal profiles of plasma cortisol is often limited. On the other hand, a simple ACTH test or an overnight dexamethasone suppression test permit, in most instances, definite diagnosis or exclusion of adrenocortical insufficiency and Cushing's syndrome respectively.
