    Abstract:
    The rise of the female doctor can be read as a post-modern sociological story in pictures. Questions about designing medical practice, professional pleasure and combining work with other activities could only emerge after women had fought the right to become doctor in all medical disciplines. Various photographs, drawings and cartoons reflect society's changing perspective on female physicians. However, it is uncertain in what way this long-standing debate will benefit female doctors. The call for change in the medical profession remains undiminished.
