Title: [Aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs hypersensitivity--mechanisms, diagnostics and treatment]. Author: Kupczyk M, Kuna P. Journal: Pneumonol Alergol Pol; 2008; 76(5):366-77. PubMed ID: 19003768. Abstract: Aspirin hypersensitivity syndrome includes several symptoms from the respiratory tract, skin and digestive system triggered by ingestion of aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Asthmatic attacks precipitated by aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs occur in about 10% of all asthmatic patients. In subjects with aspirin hypersensitivity disruption of synthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and overproduction of cysteinyl leukotrienes (Cys-LT) seem to be crucial in the pathogenesis of bronchial symptoms. Double blind, placebo controlled challenges are regarded as a gold standard in the diagnosis of aspirin hypersensitivity.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
