Title: Brazelton babies: understanding infant behaviour. Author: Hawthorne J. Journal: Pract Midwife; 2008 Dec; 11(11):28-30. PubMed ID: 19105561. Abstract: When we work with families, we need to develop a strong, collaborative relationship with them in order to support the family system. We can listen to and communicate with parents and older children as they can verbalise their likes and dislikes. In order to listen to and communicate with babies, we need to understand their behaviour, which is their language. The Neonatal Behavioural Assessment Scale gives us rich information about the needs of the individual baby for their optimal development. We can help parents to facilitate the infant in coping with their environment and interactions. Parents enjoy the amazing interactive abilities of their infant; and, since the baby is the barometer of the situation in the household, we can form an understanding of the needs of the baby and the family by using the NBAS.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
