Title: The state of nutrition in Fars, Iran: a review. Author: Lankarani S, Musaiger AO. Journal: Nutr Health; 1991; 7(3):135-42. PubMed ID: 1923070. Abstract: Nutritional problems in Fars province, Iran were reviewed. The commonest problems are protein-energy malnutrition, growth retardation, zinc and iron deficiencies. Several factors have contributed to malnutrition in this province such as food habits, low intake of some nutrients, high rate of illiteracy and unsound infant feeding practices. Preventive programmes to control the nutritional disorders should be given a high priority in any health plan.
