Title: [Depression and myocardial infaction]. Author: Testuz A. Journal: Rev Med Suisse; 2009 Mar 04; 5(193):515-6, 518-9. PubMed ID: 19374048. Abstract: Several works show an association between depression and the occurence of a first myocardial infarction. Depression after myocardial infarction seems to be a marker of poorer outcome, regardless of other risk factors or severity of the myocardial infarction. Dysautonomia and alteration of platelet activation are a few physiopathological changes shared by both affections, through which they might be related. Treatment of depression is not associated with better cardiovascular outcome, but selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors have been shown safe and efficient among patients with coronary heart disease. Cognitivo-comportemental approach and cardiovascular rehabilitation program after myocardial infarction also play a role in improving quality of life of the depressed patient with coronary heart disease.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
