Title: Uteroperitoneal fistula formation after proximal salpingectomy with harmonic scalpel resulting in a third consecutive fallopian tube ectopic pregnancy: a case report. Author: Fylstra DL. Journal: J Reprod Med; 2009 May; 54(5):330-2. PubMed ID: 19517702. Abstract: BACKGROUND: Poststerilization ectopic pregnancies occur as the result of tuboperitoneal or uteroperitoneal fistula formation allowing sperm access to the peritoneal cavity and ovulated ova. This fistula formation is more likely to occur with dissection involving the proximal fallopian tube. CASE: Three consecutive fallopian tube ectopic pregnancies occurred in a woman whose first 2 were treated with laparoscopic salpingectomy. CONCLUSION: Like with tubal sterilization, ectopic pregnancy resection, when possible, should preserve the proximal fallopian tube to limit the possibility of tuboperitoneal or uteroperitoneal fistula formation.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
