Title: Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp with ketoconazole shampoo. A double-blind study. Author: Faergemann J. Journal: Acta Derm Venereol; 1990; 70(2):171-2. PubMed ID: 1969208. Abstract: Thirty-six patients with seborrhoeic dermatitis of the scalp and culture positive for Pityrosporum ovale were treated in a double-blind placebo controlled study with ketoconazole shampoo twice weekly for 4 weeks. In the ketoconazole group, 16 of 18 patients (89%) became free of lesions or improved, compared with only 8 of 18 (p less than 0.01) in the placebo group.
