Title: Sickle trait and its association with birthweight and urinary tract infections in pregnancy. Author: Baill IC, Witter FR. Journal: Int J Gynaecol Obstet; 1990 Sep; 33(1):19-21. PubMed ID: 1974527. Abstract: The objective of this retrospective case control study was to compare pregnant women with sickle trait hemoglobin to their normal hemoglobin counterparts. Sickle trait was associated with a significant increase in bacteriuria (13.0% vs 9.0%) and pyelonephritis (2.1% vs 1.4%).
