Title: An observational study on MR images of the effect of the discoid meniscus on articular cartilage thickness. Author: Oni DB, Jeyapalan K, Oni OO. Journal: Knee; 2011 Jun; 18(3):202-4. PubMed ID: 20542700. Abstract: The discoid meniscus is known to affect the morphology and mechanics of the knee compartment in which it is housed. To determine whether it also is determinative of the articular cartilage thickness, measurements were made on MR images. There was no statistically significant difference in femoral or tibial articular cartilage thickness between compartments with normal meniscus and compartments with discoid meniscus. These findings suggest that mechanical disturbances wrought by the discoid shape do not have a 'Wolff law' effect.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
