    Abstract:
    Appraisal of the results of treatment of 1,296 patients with bleeding ulcers among which 565 underwent operation, and the findings of endoscopic, morphofunctional, and immunological studies allowed the authors to suggest a more active surgical tactics and to substantiate the indications for emergency operations. The suggested tactics led to a significant increase of surgical activity, which made it possible to reduce the total mortality among patients with bleeding ulcers to 3.9%, postoperative mortality to 5.6%, and mortality after emergency operations to 6.7%.
