  • Title: [Specular microscopy of the corneal endothelium after entry of silicone oil into the anterior chamber].
    Author: Gao RL.
Journal: Zhonghua Yan Ke Za Zhi; 1990 Sep; 26(5):267-9. PubMed ID: 2086135.
    Abstract:
Specular microscopy of the corneal endothelium in 42 cases (42 eyes) with silicone oil in the anterior chamber after pars plana vitrectomy and silicone oil injection revealed reduced cell density, pleomorphism of endothelial cells, and increased corneal thickness. The optical characteristics of silicone oil in contact with the endothelium. i.e. bright reflection, reversed luminance at the cell boundaries, and black and white contours at the margins of posterior corneal folds, were also observed.
