  • Title: The synchondrosis between the greater horn and the body of the hyoid bone: a radiological assessment.
    Author: MacDonald-Jankowski DS.
Journal: Dentomaxillofac Radiol; 1990 Nov; 19(4):171-2. PubMed ID: 2097227.
    Abstract:
The synchondrosis between the greater horn and the body of the hyoid presents as a vertical radiolucent line, which may be mistaken for a fracture. The incidence of its presence on dental radiographs was assessed in two age groups. Since it is a normal feature in many hyoid bones, especially in the younger age group, it is important to identify it as such.
