  • Title: Abscess transformation of intracardiac hematoma and ventricular rupture after double-patch repair of postinfarction ventricular septal defect.
Author: Cho YH, Kim WS, Lee YT, Park PW.
Journal: J Card Surg; 2010 Nov; 25(6):676-9. PubMed ID: 21070352.
    Abstract:
A 69-year-old male patient underwent double-patch repair for a postinfarction ventricular septal defect (VSD). He returned five months later with an abscess in the area of a postoperative hematoma between the patch and the left ventricle. The abscess was drained and the ventricles were successfully reconstructed. Intracardiac hematoma after double-patch repair of postinfarction VSD should be closely followed up and, if there are any infection signs, aggressive surgical management should be performed.
