  • Title: [Induction of labor with prostaglandin F 2 alpha (a comparative study using oxytocin and prostaglandin)].
    Author: Kerekes L, Domokos N.
Journal: Zentralbl Gynakol; 1977; 99(16):971-8. PubMed ID: 21496.
    Abstract:
The authors investigated the effectiveness of prostaglandin F2alpha administered by intravenous drop infusion to induce labour. They compared their results with those obtained in oxytocin-induced labour. They determined that prostaglandin F2alpha can without any danger be administered in the induction of labour. The process of labour and the ensuing results indicate that prostaglandin is less of a burden to the uteroplacental circulation. In administering either of the two drugs, the authors deem the principle of applying the "smallest" dose important. The effectiveness of prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2a) administered by iv drop infusion to induce labor was studied. The results were compared with those obtained in oxytocin-induced labor. It was determined that PGF2a can without any danger be administered in the induction of labor. The process of labor and the ensuing results indicate that PG is less of a burden to the uteroplacental circulation. In administereing either of the 2 drugs, the principle of applying the "smallest" dose is considered important.
