Title: ["... Otherwise we should get, not neurotics, but scoundrels". Karl Abraham's reception of Freud's theory of sexuality]. Author: Früh F. Journal: Luzif Amor; 2010; 23(46):44-57. PubMed ID: 21560371. Abstract: The author explores the question of how Abraham received, and elaborated on, Freud's theory of sexuality. Referring to their correspondence, she discusses some paradigmatic papers of Abraham, focussing on his seemingly minor departures from Freud's concept which, however, led to decisive changes of theory and practice. Abraham's unwavering insistence on a genetically based aggression in the oral and anal phases of development which ignores the difference between sexual drives and drives of self-preservation, reformulating infantile fantasies into theoretical notions, exerted a significant, albeit dubious, influence on later psychoanalytic theory formation.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
