Title: Pain management in the pediatric population. Author: Clark L. Journal: Crit Care Nurs Clin North Am; 2011 Jun; 23(2):291-301. PubMed ID: 21624691. Abstract: Pain management is an important part of health care. During childhood, the prevalence of pain depends on the child's ongoing health status. Most healthy children receive more than 20 immunizations before 2 years of age. If the child is born with health concerns and is required to spend time in the neonatal intensive care unit, the number of painful encounters can reach into the hundreds. To optimally treat children with pain, nurses must realize that appropriately assessing and treating pain in children is a necessary part of their care.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
