Title: Recent advances in diagnosis and treatment of acute kidney injury in patients with cancer. Author: Denker B, Robles-Osorio ML, Sabath E. Journal: Eur J Intern Med; 2011 Aug; 22(4):348-54. PubMed ID: 21767751. Abstract: Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a common complication in patients with cancer and even though there are many causes of renal failure in this population the classical classification of prerenal, renal, and postrenal is useful as a diagnostic guide. Important risk factors for AKI are dehydration, use of nephrotoxic drugs, preexisting renal impairment and large tumor burden. The development of AKI is associated with poor prognosis but early recognition and treatment initiation are associated with better outcomes in this population.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
