    Abstract:
    It is the object of this review article, to analyze the latest research results in the field of pharmacotherapy of disturbances in the lipid metabolism. The clinical significance of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia will be critically judged by means of the data of the latest research works. All the important classes of substances, available for the pharmacotherapy of hyperlipoproteinemias, will be discussed regarding their mechanisms of action, their efficacy and side effects. Finally, the combination therapy of various lipid lowering agents as well as the indication for plasmapheresis respectively LDL-elimination by means of HELP-technique are reviewed.
