  • Title: [Outcomes after implantation of a trifocal diffractive IOL].
    Author: Lesieur G.
Journal: J Fr Ophtalmol; 2012 May; 35(5):338-42. PubMed ID: 22424593.
    Abstract:
PURPOSE: To assess the visual and refractive outcomes after implantation of the FineVision trifocal IOL (PhysIOL, Belgium). Site: Albi, France. METHODS: Twenty eyes of ten patients were implanted consecutively with the FineVision trifocal IOL between June and November 2010. This IOL is fully diffractive over the entire optic and presents a decrease of the diffractive step height from the center towards the periphery to improve distance vision in mesopic conditions. RESULTS: Uncorrected binocular visual acuity was 1.00 in all cases (1.00±0.00). Near vision was equal to or better than Parinaud 2 in all cases and intermediate vision was better than Parinaud 3. The photopic defocus curve showed no decrease in the intermediate range. The visual acuity decreased by only one line at 10% contrast, which is similar to published data with bifocal IOL's. CONCLUSION: Trifocality maintains distance and near vision performance while improving outcomes for intermediate vision. The third focal point is usable by the patient and does not create ghosting dysphotopsias.
