    Author: Meng W, Butterworth J, Calvas P, Malecaze F.
Journal: Med Hypotheses; 2012 Jun; 78(6):778-80. PubMed ID: 22465466.
    Abstract:
Myopia is a common ocular disease in the world. Its prevalence has increased rapidly worldwide, especially in some East-Asian countries. Genetic factors and environmental factors both affect myopia's onset and its progress. Iris colour is an important characteristic of a person. It is a possible risk factor for myopia by affecting the amount and the colour of light entering eyes. The study of iris colour may contribute to the understanding of myopia mechanism and provide good suggestive evidence for studies on other eye diseases. In this article, the possible connection between myopia and iris colour is proposed. Approaches to dissect any link are suggested.
