Title: [Complications associated with soft hydrophilic contact lenses]. Author: Shen BF. Journal: Zhonghua Yan Ke Za Zhi; 1990 Jul; 26(4):223-6. PubMed ID: 2249579. Abstract: The authors report 89 cases of ocular complications associated with soft hydrophilic contact lenses, including corneal abrasions, corneal ulcers, punctate corneal epithelial erosions, aphakic corneal edema, and superior limbal keratoconjunctivitis. Soft contact lenses interfere with the integrity and function of the tear film, so that corneal metabolism is affected, predisposing the cornea to infections by Pseudomonas, Acanthamoebia, fungus and virus. The incidence of the complications is high; therefore, due attention should be devoted to their prevention and treatment.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
