Author: Janier M, Libar E, Bonnet A, Meunier P, Tabet M, Mathourais M, Paterour C, Porcher R. Journal: Sex Transm Dis; 2012 May; 39(5):359-60. PubMed ID: 22504599. Abstract: Although there is no data in the literature, some textbooks recommend fractioning the injection of benzathine penicillin G (BPG) for alleviating the pain. In a monocentric study done in 50 consecutive patients with late syphilis. Patients were assigned to receive 1 dose of 2.4 million units BPG intramuscularly the first week and 2 doses of 1.2 million units BPG in each buttock the second week. In the third week, patients were asked to choose between the 2 options. It was demonstrated that the 2 techniques were equally well tolerated and equally preferred by patients.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
