Abstract: We propose a diagnostic algorithm based on the evaluation of GERD symptoms, the test results with a single dose of alginate with heartburn and EGD--esophagogastroduodenoscopy data. The diagnosis of GERD with reflux esophagitis based on the endoscopic detection of characteristic changes of esophagus. Diagnostic criteria endoscopically negative forms of GERD are the presence of symptoms of concern to the patient, the absence of damage to the esophagus during EGD and rapid relief of heartburn, a single dose of alginate (alginate positive test).
