Title: Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy. Author: Kudsi OY, Gagner M, Jones DB. Journal: Surg Oncol Clin N Am; 2013 Jan; 22(1):59-73, vi. PubMed ID: 23158085. Abstract: The laparoscopic approach for benign and malignant lesions in the tail of the pancreas is becoming a more widely used approach. Multiple prospective studies have shown the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy in single-center and multi-center settings. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is a challenging procedure, because the pancreas is surrounded by critical structures and located in the retroperitoneum. Pancreatic fistula remains a common complication in the laparoscopic approach. Distal pancreatic aggressive tumors may not be appropriate for the laparoscopic approach due to the lack of oncologic safety studies.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
