Abstract: A torsion of the omentum with consecutive necrosis as a cause of acute abdominal pain or as a differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis is a rare finding. An overlook over the literature shows that since the first description of segmental necrosis of the omentum by Eitel et al. in 1899 only 300 cases were published.
