    Abstract:
Allergic rhinitides are the most common immunological diseases seen by the ENT specialist. A differentiation is made between seasonal and perennial rhinopathia allergica. For the establishment of the diagnosis, considerable importance attaches to careful history taking. Further evidence as to the triggering allergen is obtained by a variety of skin tests, where, in cases of doubt, the suspected allergen can be verified by means of a rhinomanometrically controlled intranasal test. By means of various in vitro examinations, serum antibodies can be detected. Therapeutically, avoidance or partial avoidance is recommended; if this is not possible, however, immunotherapy by desensitization of the organism vis-a-vis the allergen, with resulting reduction in symptoms is employed. If this approach remains unsuccessful, symptomatic drug therapy is initiated.
