  • Title: [Electromyographic examination of patients with cerebral palsy].
    Author: Umkhanov KhA.
Journal: Ortop Travmatol Protez; 1990 Mar; (3):32-7. PubMed ID: 2367112.
    Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of electromyographic investigations in 268 patients with infantile cerebral paralysis before and after orthopaedic and surgical treatment. It has been established that the value of electrogenesis of the affected muscles mostly correlates with the degree of the patients' motor activity. However, the development of fixed contractures suppresses the possibility of manifestation of electrical activity of the muscles, and the orthopaedic and surgical intervention climinates these obstacles, creating thus the conditions for muscle activity. Besides, it has been demonstrated that in general any kind of surgical intervention leads to reduction of electrogenesis in the muscles, and this trend is most expressed after the intervention on tendons and muscles, and least after the correction of the contractures with special devices. The dynamics of restoration of electrogenesis, reciprocity and other electromyographic values after the surgical treatment has been studied.
