    Abstract:
    Surveillance for vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus species and multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa started in 2007 in Nagano prefecture. Moreover, we have been able to survey almost all multidrug-resistant bacteria using the Shinshu infection control surveillance system (SICSS) since 2011, and check for outbreaks of multidrug-resistant bacteria throughout Nagano prefecture in real time, as happened in a hospital. Using the SICSS, we can prevent pathogens from spreading from a hospital to neighboring hospitals, and support facilities without a specialist in infection control. A surveillance system such as the SICSS is fundamental for regional infection control.
