Title: Multifocal serous detachments as the presenting sign of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. Author: Randhawa S, Sharma M. Journal: Retin Cases Brief Rep; 2014; 8(4):295-9. PubMed ID: 25372532. Abstract: PURPOSE: To report a case of bilateral multifocal serous detachments as the presenting sign of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. METHODS: Observational case report. RESULTS: A 59-year-old woman presented with decreased vision and was found to have bilateral multifocal serous detachments. Her review of symptoms prompted further investigations that revealed evidence of acute intravascular hemolysis, renal failure, and cerebral ischemia. This led to the diagnosis of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. CONCLUSION: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a life-threatening condition that may present to an ophthalmologist. Recognizing its ophthalmic manifestations can be life saving for the patient.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
